Professor Ingram Bywater (1840–1914), Greek scholar and Regius Professor of Greek in the University of Oxford 1893–1908; President of the Oxford Aristotelian Society for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1908; a Delegate of the University Press from 1879, and a renowned bibliophile. The portrait has been variously dated to 1900 or 1901.
